J-culture `new year`

New year starts in the 1st, January. There are some customs in Japan. Today I talk about Japanese new year. As you know, most of people eat Ozouni, which consist of Rice cakes, soup, and some vegitables. Both taste and appearance are very simple. This is traditionally eaten by the younger and the senior citizen, but sometimes the elderly die due to chocking on their rice cakes to their throat because rice cakes are very soft and easily to stick. My family likes it very much. Before new year day, my grand mother make rice cakes from special rice with a machine evey year.

To tell the truth, I do not like Mochi. The first day of January, the breakfast is Zouni evey year. It is like a costom in my house. As I do not like it, I eat bread or something that I like.

When I was little, I really looked forward to new year day because it has many events that makes me happy. For example, Otoshidama is one of the happy events for children. Parents or neighborfood or cousion give money to children as a tip. It depends on their ages how much money they gain. This year I got highly 50000 yen from five adult. I spent that moeny buying clothes and getting on Shinkansen from Shizuoka to Osaka. I hope I can get it next year.
